Information Center

Seal

The Information Center at NSIDC supports our mission to "make fundamental contributions to cryospheric science and excel in managing data and disseminating information in order to advance understanding of the Earth system." The Information Center serves as a resource for cryospheric information, and provides research materials and reference services for researchers at NSIDC and the University of Colorado, Boulder, and for the general public.

The Information Center acquires and catalogs both published and unpublished analog materials on glaciology, snow, ice, climate, and permafrost, as well as digital data such as CD-ROMs and Web resources. It contains over 44,000 monographs, serials, journal articles, reprints, videos, maps, atlases and CD-ROMs. We currently receive over 100 periodicals and newsletters relating to the cryosphere and to remote sensing of ice and snow. The Information Center catalog contains records for approximately 19,700 items, and you can search it in-house, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The catalog is also available on the Web, as part of the Arctic and Antarctic Regions Database published by NISC (National Information Services Corporation). Material check-out is limited to NSIDC and University of Colorado, Boulder personnel, but items may be obtained by NOAA personnel through Interlibrary Loan. All others may visit the Center to use materials.

The Information Center collection is maintained at NSIDC as part of the World Data Center for Glaciology, Boulder, with support from NOAA's National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service. It is located in Room 258 at the National Snow and Ice Data Center.

Information Center librarians provide reference services to all users of the Information Center materials, handling over 600 reference requests per year. For help, please contact Gloria Hicks or Allaina Howard at Library@nsidc.org.
